RCO Steamline is the railway of your RedM server. Players open a railroad company, buy a steam engine and its cars, and run them on the game’s lines: they fire the boiler, take on coal and water, carry passengers and freight, and repair the track. A train is one train for everyone: every player sees the same train, the same cargo and the same passengers.

What players can do

Run a company

At a station’s railroad office, anyone opens a company, even alone. The company keeps a till, hires the people standing nearby and buys the engine, then the cars one at a time.

Drive and fire

A real boiler in the cab: throttle, reverser, brake, fire, injector and the shovel. One player drives, another can work the fire beside him.

Coal and water

Shovel coal from the station’s pile into the tender and pull the spout of a water tower over it. By hand and free, at every station and at towers along the line.

Passengers

Players buy a ticket at the counter and take a seat in the coach. NPC passengers wait on the platform, board, and pay their fare to the company when they get off.

Freight

Contracts at the stations: crates, barrels and logs, carried piece by piece into the cars and handed in at the destination’s delivery pile.

Wear and repairs

Wheels, brakes and boiler wear out with use. Broken rails close the line until a crew repairs them, by hand or with the caboose’s workers.

Customise the engine

The owner paints the engine and tender, picks a livery for each and adds a door star, candlesticks and a toolbox on the tender.

Server trains

When no player train needs the line, the server’s own trains run a timetable between stations and sell tickets too.

The railway

  • 12 stations come ready: Rhodes, Flatneck, Riggs, Wallace, Annesburg, Saint Denis, Emerald, Valentine, Heartland Oil Fields, MacFarlane’s Ranch, Armadillo and Benedict Point.
  • 8 railroad offices (Rhodes, Riggs, Wallace, Annesburg, Saint Denis, Emerald, Valentine and Benedict Point): companies are opened and run there, and freight leaves from there.
  • A Steamline booth on the platform of every station: trains are called and parked there, and freight contracts are taken there.
  • Block signals: a train never runs into a block another train holds. The driver throws the switches from the cab.
  • The train is put together from the cars the company owns, each time it is called: up to 3 cars behind the tender (passenger cars, boxcars, flatcars, in that order) and a caboose at the end.

Good to know

  • No jobs to create in your framework: companies, their members and their trains are kept by the resource itself, the same way on RSG and VORP.
  • One item only: the train ticket (rco_train_ticket).
  • The database tables are created by the resource itself on the first start.
  • Prices are in the money of the period: a company costs $20 to open, the engine $1,800, a ticket $0.10 plus $0.40 per km.
  • A parked train keeps its coal, water, wear and paint for the next call.
  • The game’s own random trains are turned off, so they never run into the players’ trains (Config.DisableGameTrains).
  • Texts in English and Portuguese.
